Batik is the technique of using wax and fabric dye to create patterns and designs on fabric. It is a traditional craft handed down from generations of Eastern crafters and its use can be traced back to over 1,500 years ago.
This piece is a one of a kind textile. I use the batik process to create lines, marks, and block out areas on silk. Within the boundaries of wax I intuitively apply luminous, intense, rich dye colors to the fabric. Heat is then applied to the silk to release the wax and set the color.
